Student Visa Process.

In order to study at a university in New Zealand as an international student, you need to obtain a student visa. We, at AKO, are here to provide full assistance throughout the entire process and to give you the best chances of obtaining a visa.

Step 1: Start with Counselling

Come for a counselling meeting at our branch to get the process started. We will sit down with you to discuss the different programmes available at recommended institutions. We will provide detailed information on the destinations and answer your questions.

Step 2: AKO Registration

Register with AKO to initiate the university admission and student visa processes. We will provide comprehensive assistance throughout both. All of our services are completely free of charge.

Step 3: Apply for Admission

When you have made a decision about the institution and programme of study, we will assist you with completing the application for admission. You need to support your application with proof of the academic qualifications which you have obtained so far and with proof of your English language skills.
We will give you a checklist with the documents which you need to present when you make the visa application. Once you have submitted your application through us, we will keep track of it and inform you of its progress. We will keep in touch with the institution on your behalf.

Step 4: Medicals and PCC Arrangement

Once you have an offer letter from your chosen institution, you will need to go through a medical examination which must be conducted by a medical doctor who is approved by the New Zealand Government.
A list of the approved physicians is available at http://www.immigration.govt.nz/paneldoctors/. You need to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) as well.

Step 5: Visa Application

Along with the filled out visa application form, you need to provide all documents present on the checklist given to you as part of Step 3.
At AKO Consultants, we strongly recommend that you use the Funds Transfer Scheme (FTS) operated by ANZ, which is one of the largest and oldest banks in New Zealand. FTS has several notable advantages:

  • Faster application processing due to the lack of detailed fund assessment
  • Parent control over the amount of money that the student will have access to in New Zealand
  • Ensuring the access of the students to sufficient funds for covering all living expenses
  • Easier access to FTS compared to other banking services and products

We will keep track of your visa application and stay in contact with the visa office on your behalf.

Step 6: Tuition Fees Payment

Upon the receipt of Approval in Principal (a conditional approval) from the New Zealand authorities, you need to pay the tuition fee for your first year of study. The payment can be made via Telegraphic Transfer (TT) or Direct Debit (DD). We can assist you with making the payment using either of these options. If you are using FTS, you will also have to transfer the amount of money necessary for covering your living expenses into your ANZ bank account.

Step 7: Obtaining a Visa

Once you have obtained a student visa, we will inform you of this and you will be able to collect your passport. At this point, you can make the necessary travel and living arrangements for moving to New Zealand.
Step 8: Travel Arrangements
You can take advantage of the travel arrangement services offered by AKO Consultants. We can organize your air ticket and insurance and provide foreign exchange. We will make things easier for you so that you can have the best start as an international student in New Zealand.
